I agree with Dr. Logic - but, for-profit companies are just that and only that - little to no eleemosynary motives there! To take the profit motive out of such basic humanitarian endeavors, I submit that only a 'not-for-profit' governmental agency be funded (e.g. NIH) to do the research.

I haven't read all the comments but is it possible ALL the crews were busy - if I read this right, it was New Year's Day - you know, the day after New Year's Eve and I suspect there were more accident, etc. calls than normal. Only so many people and equipment can be available.

Based on what's reported, I think it's a perfect solution. She came up with the idea, she's an honor student and I agree it's a not-too-bad introduction to the world of 'business' (a/k/a: living) - make commitments, memorialize them, agree on a 'quid pro quo' and honor the commitments.

There's a difference between climatic changes (e.g. global warming) and seasonal 'climate' variances. To understand this - just look up the changes in Arctic ice-mass; glacier mass; etc. - all dwindling as a result of demonstrable (i.e. recorded) oceanic temperature increases.
